One of the unifying themes sounding through Red Sox nation the last few days centers on rookie outfielder Jacoby Ellsbury. It's simple. Fans want to see him in the game.
"Start the kid! Maybe he sparks the team, maybe he doesn't but he couldn't possibly produce any less than Crisp is right now," said one fan signing the online petition
StartJacoby.com.
The petition has more than 2500 signatures from fans who want to see Ellsbury start in place of Coco Crisp. Crisp has hit just .161 in the post season. Ellsbury has seen little post-season action, but hit .353 in the regular season.
"Coco is killing the lineup! Add some kick to the team. Jacoby is electric in the box and on base," another fan signed online.
A poll of WBZ Red Sox Text alert subscribers this week found a resounding 84 percent agree with those petitioners.
Red Sox management, so far, has stayed the course, though Terry Francona has not closed the door on another lineup change. After announcing that Bobby Kielty would be the only fresh face in the lineup for Game 5, Francona told WBZ-TV's Dan Roche, "We're going to do things the way we think is the right way to do it, and if it doesn't work we go back and we think about it and we do it again."
The lineup for Game 6 will be posted late Saturday afternoon. Stay tuned.
