Coast Guard Attempts Rescue Off Coast Of R.I.

Conditions were very bad along the coast. Heavy surf was slamming against the rocky area where the man went into the water.

Coast Guard crews made a daring effort to save a man who fell into rough waters near Fort Wetherill State Park in Jamestown, Rhode Island on Monday.
Officials received a call from a Good Samaritan around 4:30 p.m., reporting that someone in the water appeared to be in trouble, the Coast Guard reported. The unidentified person tried to save the man, but that person's efforts were unsuccessful.
Conditions were very bad along the coast. Heavy surf was slamming against the rocky area where the man went into the water.
Rescue crews are not sure if the man fell into the water or jumped.
According to the Coast Guard, the rescue effort has turned into a recovery mission.
