4th On 4 - Road Closures And Parking
B4 Celebrations
All roadways will remain closed until July 5th unless noted otherwise until the DCR labor force has had an opportunity to clean the roadways.
Tuesday July 3, 2007: 8:00 am:1. Esplanade walkway adjacent to the Charles River closed to pedestrians from Community Boating to the Hatch Shell. Esplanade sidewalk alongside Storrow Drive remains open.
2. Oval area closed to public for Pops rehearsal (not to reopen until 4 pm, subject to wrist band restrictions).
3. No parking on Mugar Way from Arlington Street to Charles Street through July 5th at
6:00AM.
9:00 am:1. Esplanade curbside reserved for permitted bus parking, from the Longfellow Bridge
westbound to the Fielder Foot Bridge.
2. Traffic will continue west bound on Storrow Drive
3. There will be NO public parking along Storrow Drive for either the rehearsals or the concert.
4. There is NO handicapped parking for the July 3rd concert.
7:00 pm: (or earlier if required)
1. Storrow Drive will be closed westbound from the Charles Street Circle on and off ramps to the Berkeley Street on ramp. Westbound traffic may re enter Storrow by heading down Charles Street to Beacon Street to the westbound entrance to Berkeley Street. These closures shall remain in effect until July 5th.
2. Eastbound the Arlington Street tunnel to Storrow Drive will be closed until 6:00am July 5th.
Wednesday July 4, 2007:12:01 am:No parking on Memorial Drive (either side) from Massachusetts Avenue to the Longfellow Bridge. All vehicles remaining after this time will be removed.
7:30 am:1. Storrow Drive is closed from Leverett Circle to the Charles Gate/Kenmore Square exits.
2. Access to Storrow Drive (east and west bound) from Leverett Circle to Kenmore Square will be closed to traffic.
3. The Storrow Drive exit ramp in the Liberty Tunnel will be closed to all traffic except
emergency vehicles.
4. The Storrow Drive access ramp from North Street will be closed.
5. The Leverett Circle entrance to Storrow Drive will also be closed. Traffic will be allowed to travel on Msgr. O'Brien Highway to Cambridge and Martha's Road to Boston.
6. These closures will include the on-ramps to Storrow Drive from
Berkeley Street
Charlesgate Area
Bowker Overpass from the Park Drive
Charles Street Circle.
7. No parking at Magazine Beach area. No boat launching in this area.
8. Pedestrian footbridge at Charles Street Circle going to the Esplanade closed.
9. Arthur Fiedler Footbridge from Beacon Street to the Esplanade closed.
10. Mugar Way at Beacon Street closed to all pedestrian traffic. Pedestrians wishing to enter the Esplanade will be directed down Beacon Street to Berkeley Street for entry
12:00 pm:1. Longfellow Bridge will be closed from Cambridge to Boston.
2. One lane Boston to Cambridge on the Mass. Ave Bridge will be closed.
4:30 pm:1. Memorial Drive in both directions from Mass. Ave. to the Longfellow Bridge closed.
2. Longfellow Bridge in both directions closed.
3. Main Street, Cambridge from Third Street to the Longfellow Bridge closed
4. Ames Street from Main Street to Memorial Drive, Cambridge closed
5. Wadsworth and Amherst Streets, Cambridge closed
6. Land Boulevard, Cambridge from Binney Street to Longfellow Bridge closed.
7. Hayward, Carlton, Charlotte's Way and Dock Streets in Cambridge closed.
8. Access allowed to One Memorial Drive with issued permit.
6:00 pm:1. Memorial Drive from Mass. Ave to the B.U. Bridge closed.
2. Mass. Ave. Bridge closed in both directions from Beacon Street in Boston to Vassar Street in Cambridge.
3. Vassar Street from Mass Ave to Memorial Drive and Vassar Street from Main Street are closed, however, access will be allowed to patrons going to the Hyatt Regency Hotel.
11:00 pm: 1. Third Street in Cambridge becomes one way from Main Street to Msgr. O'Brien Highway
2. Craigie Draw Bridge at Leverett Circle to remain closed for 2 hours until traffic starts to subside. Smaller boats that can pass under bridge while in the down position will be allowed to pass.
Clean-Up1. Clean up begins 30 minutes after the fireworks show approximately 11:30PM.
2. All roadways will remain closed until cleaning and labor crews are safely removed.
3. There will be an attempt to open the roadways in the following order:
- Mass Ave. Bridge
- Longfellow Bridge
- Memorial Drive
- Storrow Drive, Bowker Overpass, Charlesgate Area, Charles Circle.
Storrow Drive is expected to re-open by 5.a.m. Thursday, July 5.
Parking InformationParking is very limited. The city recommends that you take public transportation (MBTA) to the event. For further MBTA information please call 617-222-3200.
If you do bring a vehicle to the event organizers suggest that you park at the 100 Clarendon Street parking lot, which is within walking distance to the Esplanade.
Handicapped Parking:1. There is no handicapped parking on July 3rd.
2. On July 4th, at 10:00 am Mass. Eye & Ear parking lot opens for handicapped vehicles. HP placards are needed for entry to the lot. The lot will close when the designated handicapped area at the Esplanade is filled, the Mass. Eye & Ear parking lot is filled or at 6:00 pm, whichever occurs first. The MBTA handicapped shuttle vans (The Ride) will operate a shuttle commencing at 10:00 am and cease operation as indicated above.
3. Vans for the return trip will commence when Storrow Drive becomes sufficiently cleared of pedestrians following the event.
Getting to the Esplanade on FootFrom Beacon Street: Enter the Esplanade by Berkeley, Clarendon, Dartmouth. Fairfield and Massachusetts Avenue.
From Charles Street: Take David G. Mugar Way westbound to Beacon and enter as above.
