Pops High School Sing-Off Winner Crowned

BOSTON (WBZ) ― The Boston Pops has crowned their 2008 Boston Pops High School Sing-Off winner.

Katie Mayhew from Vineyard Regional High School will perform with Keith Lockhart and the Boston Pops during the Fireworks Spectacular at the Esplanade on July 3 and July 4.

Conductor Keith Lockart was very impressed with the young talent that tried out this year. "Some of these voices and their approach to the stage, they have no business having that much skill at that early an age."

Mayhew first publicly sang at her great grandmother's funeral when she was 5. Now at 16, she will sing for an audience of millions.

Mayhew beat out over 250 students that tried out to perform with the Pops.
