The Charles River Esplanade Rules For July 4
In order to see the Boston Pops concert you need to locate within The Oval - the lawn area in front of the Hatch Shell, but be advised - you will not have a good view of the fireworks given the large number of trees surrounding it.
Collapsible chairs and tarps no larger than 5' by 7' are allowed in the Oval.
For the July 3rd concert (no fireworks) the gates to the Oval are open at 4:00PM.
For the July 4th concert and fireworks the gates to the Oval are open at 9:00AM
Spectators entering the Oval will be required to pass through one of the three bag check/screening entrances. At the entrance a wristband will be attached. This will be required to be worn for entry and exit throughout the day.
The following items will not be allowed in the Oval area and may be confiscated:
- alcoholic beverages
- glass containers
- tarps that are larger than 5' by 7'
- sharp objects (for example, knitting needles, metal tent spikes, can openers, metal utensils)
Once the Oval reaches capacity, usually around 7PM on July 3rd and mid-morning on the July 4th, no additional wristbands will be distributed.
No pets will be allowed in the Oval unless they are service animals.
The entire Esplanade area and the Cambridge side of the river are alcohol free areas.
