Beverage Ban Lands Pregnant Teacher In Hospital
School Committee Recommends Reversing Ruling
LAWRENCE (AP) ―
The Lawrence School Committee has suggested reversing a
ban on outside water bottles in city schools that was enacted after two underage drinking incidents inside a school building.
The committee made the recommendation after hearing from a teacher's union official who said a pregnant teacher had to be treated at a hospital for dehydration on the first day of the ban.
Superintendent Wilfredo Laboy banned the bottles this week
after students drank alcohol at two separate parties at Lawrence High School's International Academy on March 13. One student needed medical attention.
Police Chief John Romero says two school civilian security officers "purposely misled" police about the existence of a surveillance video that may have captured the drinking incidents.
