Lynn Family Survives Carbon Monoxide Scare
by T.J. Winick
LYNN (WBZ) ―
Two members of a Lynn family are lucky to be alive tonight after a carbon monoxide scare. Something went wrong with the heating system in their home, causing the house to fill up with the poisonous gas.
The family is home and healthy Wednesday night after treatment at the hospital. On Tuesday night, Dave Phillip received a disturbing phone call about an hour after he had started work.
"I got a call from my wife stating that she couldn't walk, couldn't stand up," he said.
Patricia Phillip and the couple's 9-year-old daughter Bianca were barely able to move.
"I tried to get off the bed and I couldn't and I felt nauseous and dizzy and couldn't get up," Patricia said.
David ran downstairs sensing something was poisoning his family.
"When I looked there was black soot all over the place so I knew something was wrong," David said.
It turned out that there was a problem with the home heating system, which had a broken chimney, allowing carbon monoxide to seep into the home.
"My dad told me that I wasn't responding to me," Bianca said.
Bianca and Patricia were taken to Salem hospital. Bianca was transported to Mass General where she was specially treated.
