Several Cars Damaged By Thrown Rocks On Rte. 9

WESTBORO (WBZ) ― Motorists traveling on a stretch of Route 9 eastbound in Westboro are on edge after dangerous pranks have injured at least two drivers.

At least seven cars have been damaged in recent weeks by baseball- and softball-sized rocks that were thrown onto the roadway. The cars were all heading east near the Connector Road overpass between 4:30 and 5:30 a.m.

Two motorists have been injured, including a man who got glass in his eye when a rock came crashing through the windshield of his car earlier this week.

"All I know is when I drove under the underpass and the bridge there it was just shocking -- it just startled me," said victim Roger Brown. "The next thing I know there was a loud noise and glass everywhere."

Brown said the rock was thrown into the driver side of his vehicle, smashing the window and damaging other areas of his car.

Police said the perpetrators could be throwing the rocks from the top or the side of the bridge or from a vehicle traveling westbound.

"It was very startling. I'm glad I kept control of the vehicle," Brown said.

No arrests have been made.

Police want drivers to remain alert and report any suspicious activity.

"It could be a potential life or death game that they are playing," Brown said.

Anyone with information about those responsible for throwing the rocks onto the roadway is asked to contact Westboro police.
