MARE Holds 'The Adoption Option' In Reading
Potential Foster Parents Were Able To Meet With Children Looking For Homes
READING (CBS4) ―
Parents and families who were interested in learning more about adopting a child were at
Jordan's Furniture in
Reading on Sunday for
"The Adoption Option" an event aimed at finding permanent foster homes for children in foster care.
Potential
foster parents were able to meet and talk with children in
Massachusetts who are awaiting a new home.
"Adoption parities are one of
MARE's (
Massachusetts Adoption Resource Exchange, Inc.) most successful efforts in placing children," said MARE's Executive Director
Lisa Funaro. "These events allow families to meet face-to-face with children and make connections that may not have happened otherwise."
More than 2,000 have the goal of adoption in Massachusetts and more than 600 children have not been placed with permanent families, according to MARE.
Parents who are looking to adopt a child must be 18 or older, MARE states. Foster parents can be single, partnered or married. Families of various income levels are eligible for adoption as well, but according to MARE, they must have a stable source of income to support a child.
