A 17-year-old girl
dumped on a Lowell street with a gunshot wound to the head has died.
Witnesses say a car full of people drove up to the side of Suffolk Street late Tuesday night, dumped the teen out and drove off.
When police found her, they initially thought she had been hit by a car because she was found partially on the sidewalk and partially in the street.
She was rushed to Lahey Clinic in Burlington where she died early Thursday morning.
She's identified as Tabaryna Choeun.
Her family said Choeun recently dropped out of school and moved from Lawrence to Lowell with her boyfriend.
There have been no arrests.
Investigators say the driver of the car was the intended target of shooting.
The shooter was outside of the car and when he fired, the driver ducked and Choeun was shot in the head.
Witnesses say a red two-door car was seen driving away from the scene.
They told WBZ a woman and two men were seen pushing and pulling Choeun from the car.
The district attorney says he doesn't plan on charging the teen's friends who left her. He said the girl's condition was so critical that she likely wouldn't have survived even if her friends had taken her directly to a hospital.
Anyone with information is asked to call Lowell police at (978) 937-3200 or Crimestoppers at (978) 459-TIPS (8477).
