Lynn Standoff Leaves 1 Man Dead
LYNN (WBZ) ―
One man is dead after a standoff with police overnight in Lynn.
The standoff started off as a domestic incident on Woodman Street, according the D.A.'s office.
When officers arrived, the suspect, Robert Mangiafico, 37, who was armed with a gun, fled the scene. After a footchase, officials say they found Mangiafico in a driveway on Tacoma Street.
Officials say Mangiafico was not only threatening himself, but police officers as well. For two hours Lynn police tried to negotiate with the suspect, according to the D.A.'s office.
State Police then arrived on the scene and attempted for five-and-a-half hours to negotiate with Mangiafico.
According to the D.A., police tried to use non-lethal techniques, but were unable to subdue the suspect. "Shots were fired -- again, after attempts to use many non-lethal techniques -- the man was pronounced dead at Lynn Union Hospital at approximately 5:30," said District Attorney Jonathan Blodgett.
The D.A. would say who shot first during the standoff.
