Search Suspended For Missing Man Off Deer Island

BOSTON (WBZ) ― The Coast Guard has called off the search for a 60-year-old man who apparently fell off a pleasure boat near Deer Island on Wednesday.

A Coast Guard helicopter has spent the past few days searching Boston Harbor for Anthony Tufo of Quincy. According to the Coast Guard, the boat Tufo was riding on, the Nina Maria, was headed to the Winthrop Yacht Club around 6 p.m. when he fell overboard.

"The decision to end an active search is a very difficult one," said Capt. Gail Kulisch, the commanding officer of Coast Guard Sector Boston. "While the Coast Guard's active effort has ended after an exhaustive search, we will remain vigilant for any additional information or sightings related to this case."

Tufo's family said he was not wearing a life vest when he fell over.
