Craig's List 'Massage' Ad Tied To Marriott Murder

BOSTON (WBZ) ― Boston police say a 26-year-old woman who was offering massage services through Craig's List was killed inside a luxury hotel on Huntington Avenue late Tuesday night.

A security guard at the Marriott Copley Place found the woman shot multiple times in the chest in a hallway outside a room on the 20th floor around 10 p.m. Investigators say the woman had been tied up.

Commissioner Ed Davis said Wednesday the unidentified woman was from New York and may have been involved with an escort service.  She had placed an ad on Craigslist advertising herself as a masseuse.

"We believe that this was an attempted robbery and we believe that she was involved in some type of business there - either a massage business or some type of dating service," Davis told WBZ Radio.

She was rushed to Boston Medical Center, where she died.

There have been no arrests.

The Marriott deferred all questions to police.

"This was a serious but isolated incident and in no way is it reflective of normal hotel operations," a spokesperson told WBZ.

Detectives are looking into the possibility this incident is related to a similar incident April 10 at the Westin Hotel down the street, where a 29-year old victim was robbed at gunpoint.

"Both these individuals were advertising on Craig's List, advertising masseuse services," Davis said at an afternoon news conference.

"What we believe is, there are a series of independent operations occurring and it's difficult for the hotels to police them."

Police released surveillance photos from both incidents Wednesday.  One investigator told WBZ's Jim Smith they are hopeful the surveillance images will lead to an arrest.

"The photos are very similar," Davis said.  "We believe them to be same person."

Investigators think the man is from the Boston area and they hope someone will see the photos and know who he is.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the homicide unit at 617-343-4470 or the CrimeStoppers tip line at 1-800-494-TIPS or texting 'TIP' to CRIME (27463).
