Class Action Suit Against Pike Gains Support
BOSTON (WBZ) ―
The class action suit against the Massachusetts Turnpike is gaining new support.
The group that has filed the suit,
Massachusetts Turnpike Toll Equity Trust, says more than 1,600 people have signed up so far.
They've also hired former state Attorney General Scott Harshbarger.
The group wants a massive refund for Pike toll payers who say they're unfairly subsidizing the $22 billion Big Dig.
The lawsuit is led by attorney Jan Schlichtmann, made famous by the bestselling book and movie "A Civil Action."
Schlichtmann says up to 60 cents of each turnpike toll dollar is being used to pay for the Big Dig.
A spokesman for the Mass. Pike says it has a policy of not commenting on pending litigation.
