Missing Mattapan Boy Found Safe At Logan Airport

MATTAPAN (WBZ) ― A 9-year-old Mattapan boy who was kidnapped during an armed robbery on Wednesday afternoon has been found safe.

The kidnapping happened at 437 River Street.

According to police, 9-year-old David Encarnacion was found at Logan Airport.

Police tell WBZ that a state trooper doing a routine patrol at the airport recognized Encarnacion from pictures that were being circulated.

The boy was spotted by the trooper in the departures area of Terminal B.

The search for Encarnacion started shortly before 2 p.m. when the boy, along with his mother's boyfriend, was approached by two armed men outside the apartment building.

"There was somebody in the car that wanted to kill my stepdad," David told WBZ. "They told me to get in the car."

David said the men wanted money from his mother's boyfriend, who he refers to as his stepdad, but when his stepdad refused to pay up, they kidnapped the boy. Police say the two alleged gunmen kidnapped Encarnacion and fled in the boyfriend's car.

"They didn't want to talk it out," he said. "They just wanted the money."

"I said, 'Please, don't hurt me,' but he said he wouldn't hurt me," David explained.

David said he didn't know the men. He said at some point he asked the suspects to take him to his cousin's house, which they did.

His adult cousin and the boy then went to Logan Airport to pick up his mother, who was returning from the Dominican Republic. That's when a trooper spotted the boy just before 5:30 p.m.

The mother's boyfriend was arrested on outstanding charges. Police won't say much about the robbery suspects, however, or where they found the allegedly stolen Honda.
