Elderly Couple Found Dead In Mattapoisett Home

An elderly couple was found dead inside a home in Mattapoisett Thursday afternoon.

According to police, the bodies were found at 6 Tallman St. around 2 p.m.

Shirley Battistelli, 75, was found dead on first floor. Her husband, Joseph, 72, was found in the basement. Police say it appears he hung himself.

The incident is under investigation, but police believe there is no immediate threat to the general public.

Officials say there were no signs of forced entry.
