Boston Woman Who Lost Leg Awarded $5.4 Million
BOSTON (AP) ―
A jury has awarded $5.4 million to a Boston woman who had her right leg amputated after she was hit by an MBTA bus.
Rita Traybman was struck by the bus in September 2005 as she crossed the street near her home. A Suffolk Superior Court jury on Monday awarded the 61-year-old Traybman a total of $5.4 million, including $1.4 million in interest.
Traybman's attorney, Marc Breakstone, said the jury found the MBTA's driver was at fault in the accident. He said Traybman was crossing the street in a crosswalk and had the walk signal when the bus struck her from behind.
A spokeswoman for the MBTA and an attorney for the driver did not immediately return calls seeking comment.
