With the high price of gas, the MBTA has become very popular. For eight straight months, the number of riders has grown, but there are some growing pains.
The MBTA is making an effort to teach riders some manners.
If you've ridden a train lately, you may have seen manner offenders. Now, the MBTA is trying to re-teach the rules to those who seem to have forgotten what mom and dad taught them.
The T is displaying placards with simple rhymes to teach the basics when it comes to manners.
"Be sweet and offer your seat," and "Don't be a lout, let them out."
Tthe MBTA has their work cut out for them.
"We've decided to embark on a courteous campaign to remind folks of the common transit courtesy that we hear people complain about," said MBTA General Manager Daniel Grabauskas.
And there are more than a few that need to learn manners.
"You just got off the train and people are standing in your way. Doesn't that drive you crazy?" WBZ's Jonathan Elias asked a T rider.
"I understand people are in a rush," she explained. "I try to be understanding about stuff like that."
Then there's Craig.
He told Jonathan he waits for people to get off the train before he gets on.
But seconds after the interview, impatient Craig tries to make his way in the train before everyone's out.
"Hey Craig," said Jonathan. "You just told me you waited for people to get off before you get on
. You got busted!"
"You busted me," Craig replied.
So when T riders were told about the MBTA's plan to teach manners, they liked the idea.
"It's a good idea because riding the train can be very frustrating thing."
