'T' Alert Was A Misunderstanding

BOSTON (WBZ) ― MBTA police have located the man and young girl spotted on a bus at Sullivan Station over the weekend.

According to officials, the man is the little girl's father. "Within an hour, the mother of the child called, identified the gentleman as her husband in the photographs," said MBTA Police Lt. Joseph O'Connor.

An MBTA alert was sent out Tuesday afternoon after a passenger told transit police a little girl was seen on a bus with an older man on Sunday.

The passenger allegedly heard the girl ask the man when she was going to see her mommy.

After talking to the dad and the little girl, MBTA police determined there was no criminal conduct and the case was closed. "They had been shopping earlier, the parents did separate, she brought the other children home, and those comments were made," O'Connor said.

Transit police said they received numerous tips about the incident and wanted to extend their thanks to those who provided them with information.

One T passenger told WBZ, they thought the MBTA acted properly under the circumstances. "If it had been a kidnapping, I would want to know that my child was safe. I understand there's a privacy issue, but I think sometimes it's better to be safe, especially when you're talking about children."
