Wi-Fi Coming Soon To MBTA Trains
BOSTON (WBZ) ―
Thousands of commuters who take the train into Boston will soon be able to jump online during the ride.
Wireless Internet access will soon be available on all MBTA trains, officials announced Friday.
The technology is already available on the Worcester/Framingham line to Boston's South Station since January as part of a pilot program. The T says it is trying to encourage commuters to ride the train into Boston by adding the incentive of Wi-Fi to all 258 coaches.
The Wi-Fi program will cost $1.4 million to install in all 13 of its commuter rail lines. It will cost $300,000 annually to maintain.
Installation is scheduled to begin in December, and officials say all trains should be fully equipped by late spring.
