MBTA Worker Accused Of Stealing Fares

BOSTON (WBZ) ― An MBTA employee is accused of stealing fare revenue from drop boxes.

Gilberto Carrasquillo, 43, of Dorchester, who is a Senior Revenue Collection Agent and has been working for the MBTA for more than 22 years, is accused of stealing money from MBTA drop boxes that are used to expedite the fare collection process for events that draw large crowds to the subway system, such as Red Sox games.

To catch Carrasquillo in the alleged act, transit police dropped marked currency into the fare boxes that Carrasquillo would be moving Saturday night. When the money inside the boxes was audited Sunday morning, only one of the marked bills was still inside.

Officials questioned Carrasquillo and placed him into custody.

Carrasquillo will be arraigned in Boston Municipal Court on Monday. He's charged with larceny over $250.
