Power is back on for residents in Medford, after several manhole explosions knocked out electricity for thousands on Friday.
Not only did the underground fires knock out power for nearly 7,000 customers, they halted downtown traffic and forced two buildings to evacuate.
It happened on Main Street just outside the police and fire departments shortly before 10 a.m.
A National Grid spokesperson told WBZ there was an "issue with undergound cables," but they didn't have any more specifics as to a cause for the explosions.
Tufts University issued an advisory Friday for students to not lights candles inside buildings during the power outage, and to walk in groups if they went out.
Gary Conserva told WBZ he heard an explosion and it sounded "like a truck came through the building" while he worked inside Broadway Piano.
Flames shot 20-to-30 feet high out of the ground. No one was hurt.
