Lowell 'Caught Stealing' At Fenway

BOSTON (WBZ) ― Did you know Red Sox third baseman Mike Lowell got caught stealing at Fenway Park Monday night?

During the top of the ninth of a 1-0 game against Minnesota, Lowell chased a foul ball to the stands along the third baseline. The ball landed several rows back. Video from the game shows Lowell swiping a cell phone from the top of the short wall along the front row. (He eventually gave it back.)

A viewer noticed the incident on TV and contacted WBZ.

Dan Roche asked Lowell about it Tuesday and the third baseman admitted it was all a prank.

"I always just look to see if there's like peanuts or nachos… and no one ever on the third base side… I think they banned like nachos, peanuts and popcorn there… because no one ever eats them," Lowell said.

"I kinda just want to take one from them to see their reaction. I guess a cell phone could have been good. If it was his wallet it would have been better."

"If it was his wallet I would have kept it in my pocket until the end of the game and then I would have given it back to him. I think that one would have been good."

Dustin Pedroia and Sean Casey told Roche they were in awe of what Lowell was able to do.
