Coast Guard Finds Kayak, Man Still Missing
RYE, N.H. (WBZ) ―
The Coast Guard has found the kayak officials believe belongs a man who went missing off the New Hampshire coast Friday night.
A Jayhawk helicopter spotted the yellow kayak in the area of Boon Island around 7 a.m. Saturday morning. They have still not found the missing kayaker, 59-year-old Hamilton Wood of Contoocook, New Hampshire.
When Wood went missing, there were wind gusts of up to 45 mph. He was wearing a life jacket and a wet suit.
Wood was last heard from around 3 p.m. on Friday, when he called his wife and the Coast Guard Station to notify them he was leaving the Isle of Shoals area and returning to Odiorne Point, New Hampshire.
"With the help of the New Castle Fire Department, Coast Guard crews are scouring the area in hopes of finding the kayaker safe," said Lt. j.g. Adrian Harris, the command duty officer at the First Coast Guard District command center in Boston.
The water temperature in the area is 37 degrees.
