Coast Guard Calls Off Search For Missing Kayaker

RYE, N.H. (WBZ) ― The Coast Guard has called off a search for a kayaker two days after the man went missing off the New Hampshire coast.

On Saturday, crews found the kayak but there was no sign of the man.

A Jayhawk helicopter spotted the yellow kayak in the area of Boon Island around 7 a.m. Saturday. The missing kayaker is 59-year-old Hamilton Wood of Contoocook, New Hampshire.

When Wood went missing, there were wind gusts of up to 45 mph. He was wearing a life jacket and a wet suit.

Wood was last heard from him around 3 p.m. on Friday when he called his wife and the Coast Guard Station to notify them he was leaving the Isle of Shoals area and returning to Odiorne Point.

The water temperature in the area is 37 degrees.
