Moose On Loose Shot Dead In Worcester
WORCESTER (WBZ) ―
Police shot and killed a moose in Worcester Tuesday morning, a short time after it wandered into a warehouse.
Worcester police say a driver first spotted it near Route 290 around 5 a.m. and called authorities.
The 1,000 pound moose then walked to Quinsigamond Avenue, strolled into a warehouse at Castle Metals and wandered out. Police briefly stopped traffic in the area.
State environmental police and state troopers then tracked the moose for more than an hour before it ended up near Route 146.
Because it was so close to a busy road, authorities determined it was becoming a public safety issue. The moose was shot dead around 8:15 a.m. It was taken away on a backhoe.
