Mother Duck Run Over While Walking Ducklings
Driver Says He Fled 'Ballistic' Crowd Outside Mall
DARTMOUTH (AP) ―
Police say a Massachusetts man ran over a mother duck as she was walking with 12 ducklings in a shopping mall parking lot.
The driver told police he didn't see the ducks at the Dartmouth Mall last Saturday and he left the scene because witnesses were yelling at him.
Dartmouth Detective Robert Levinson tells The Standard Times of New Bedford that witnesses went "ballistic" and told police the driver seemed to be laughing.
The 25-year-old Acushnet man police have not publicly named could face animal cruelty charges. Store security officers monitoring the parking lot saw the incident and captured his car and partial license plate on surveillance video.
The orphaned ducklings are being cared for by Dartmouth's animal control officer.
