Man Loses Thousands In Natick Parking Lot Scam
NATICK (WBZ) ―
A shopper outside the Natick
Collection has become the latest victim of a scam. This shopper thought he was
getting a great deal on an expensive TV, instead he was robbed.
The victim in this case lost almost $10,000.
Natick police
tell the Metrowest Daily News this parking lot scam has been happening at the Natick
Collection almost once or twice a month for the past year.
In Monday's instance, a suspect
called a Connecticut
man and claimed to have a brother who worked at Sears, where the stockroom is
overloaded with plasma TVs.
The victim agreed to meet the man identified
as "Henry."
He handed him $9,800 in cash for 13 TVs
and got a typed-written receipt with the Sears logo from "Henry."
The victim told police he was a
little uneasy about the transaction, so he asked if he could take a photo. "Henry"
agreed, took his money, but still never came out of the store with the
merchandise.
Variations of the scam have been
happening for decades, in fact, we've reported on one that went down almost
exactly like this one a couple of years ago.
So far, no arrests have been made in
Monday's incident. Police say there are probably many more victims out there, but they might be too embarrassed to tell authorities.
