Original 'Batman' Lives In Waltham

WALTHAM (WBZ) ― The original Batman lives in Waltham. Well, sort of.

The National Archives and Records Administration regional office in Waltham holds the original copy of the "Adventures of Batman and Robin #1."

Issue No. 1 came out in 1940.

The Archives holds it because it was part of a copyright case between Comic Book Company DC and Fox Publications.

The original comic book was used as evidence in a New York court case when Fox Publications sued Detective Comics, claiming DC Comics had used Fox materials. DC Comics fought the allegations for decades until it eventually won. Fox Publications later had to file for bankruptcy. The records of this case are also at the National Archives.

The newest Batman movie, "The Dark Knight," hits the box office this weekend and is the fourth most pre-sold movie of all time behind the third "Star Wars" film, the fourth "Harry Potter" movie and the third "Lord of the Rings."
