Mass. National Guard To Assist With Storm Cleanup

BOSTON (WBZ) ― The Massachusetts National Guard will be helping parts of the state clean up after Thursday night's horrific ice storm.

The Guard started preparing for deployment after Gov. Deval Patrick declared a State of Emergency for Massachusetts on Friday.

"The men and women of the Massachusetts National Guard are eager to put their training to good use," said Adjutant General of the Massachusetts National Guard, Maj. Gen. Joseph Carter. "Our immediate task is to conduct readiness checks, prepare plans, and evaluate conditions until we receive specific tasking from MEMA."

Five hundred National Guard troops will be helping clean up debris, power generation, fuel movement and traffic control.
