'U30 Bandit" Suspects Were Under Surveillance

BOSTON (WBZ) ― The two men believed to be involved in the so-called "U30 Bandit" bank robberies were under surveillance when they allegedly held up a bank in Needham Wednesday.

32-year-old Dimitri Long of Norwood and 44-year-old Michael Coty of Dedham were each ordered held on $250,000 bail at their arraignments in Dedham District Court Thursday.

State police and the FBI say they had the men under surveillance in connection with the U30 heists – seven bank robberies in the Boston suburbs since March, each one pulled off in less than 30 seconds.

Investigators say they followed the men to a Sovereign Bank in Needham as it was robbed Wednesday afternoon.

Long was arrested after he left the bank, allegedly carrying a gun and $10,000 in cash in a black satchel.

Coty was captured in Newton after a chase.
