The FBI says it suspects the same man who robbed a Needham bank Friday afternoon is responsible for robbing a bank in Wellesley one week ago.
In both robberies, the robber left a suspicious device in an apparent attempt to distract police while he fled the scene.
On Friday, a bomb squad was called to the TD Bank North at
1013 Great Plain Ave to investigate a device left by a robber.
Great Plain Avenue was shut down in the immediate vicinity as the bomb squad evaluated the device.
A few hours later the FBI released surveillance photos of the robber and said it believes the same robber also hit up a Bank of America on Washington Street in Wellesley last Friday.
In both the Needham and the Wellesley robberies the man wore a black Adidas zip-up jacket and concealed his face. He also brandished a black handgun.
The FBI said a suspicious sedan was seen at the scene of the Needham robbery. It was seen speeding away from the area moments after the robbery. It's described as a small, box-like, bluish green, older model sedan that may have been foreign.
The driver is described as a white or possibly Hispanic woman wearing a white hooded sweatshirt.
There were no reports of injuries in either robbery.
Needham police said they aren't sure how much money the robber got away with. He fled on foot.
In last week's incident, the robber left a device inside the bank at the same time another device was discovered down the street at a Star Market. Police are trying to determine if both devices were left by the same robber.
Earlier in the week, a device was found wired to a payphone in Needham, with a note attached to it. Police have not said if they believe that incident is related to the Needham and Wellesley incidents.
The FBI said there may be more than one person involved the the robbery schemes.
