A Needham High School soccer coach has reached an incredible milestone as he won his 600th game Monday night.
Coach Don Brock reached his 600th win after 41 years as a coach.
The school moved the game to 7 p.m. Monday so more people could watch the special game.
The year 1961 marked Needham High School's first soccer team and its first soccer coach Brock.
"Sports have come a long, long way since then," Brock said.
But their coach has stayed the same, and Coach Brock has waited a long time for Monday night's game.
"I'm sort of excited. It's been a long time getting here, 41 years," he said.
"I don't know if 599 is any different from 598 or different from No. 1," Brock said. "It's just so enjoyable to be around the young people and to coach. So I don't know if it's that big of a deal."
"Oh it's a big deal," said former player Paul Tallino. "He's just not going to let you know it's a big deal."
"Needham soccer is a tradition," said former player Jay Steeves. "It has been for awhile and he has a lot to do with it. To reach that goal and achievement is unbelievable."
"His passion for the kids at his age, it just doesn't stop. He has the same passion he had the first day I walked on the field in 1983," Tallino said. "That's a rarity."
It's an impressive goal for a man who's not that impressed and would rather win for the players and a better seat in the playoffs.
"It's just another win or a loss that could happen tonight, too," Brock said.
Needham won Monday night's game against Braintree.
Brock said he's not the first coach to do this, however. A coach in Barnstable reached the same goal a month ago.
