Bystander Shot In New Bedford Robbery Attempt

NEW BEDFORD (WBZ) ― An innocent bystander is in critical condition after being shot during a robbery attempt at a gas station, police said. The gunman has not been caught.

The shooting happened sometime between 8:30 p.m. and 9 p.m. Saturday at the Petro Mart on Coggeshall Street, police said. Police did not release the name of the victim, a 32-year-old New Bedford man who is being treated at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence, R.I.

Police are looking for a light-skinned Hispanic male in his late teens or early 20s. He is believed to be from 5 feet 11 inches to 6 feet 2 inches tall, with a pronounced nose and a thin mustache, police said.
