New Bedford Police Kill Man After Alleged Threat

NEW BEDFORD (WBZ) ― New Bedford police shot and killed a man they said threatened officers with knives.

Police spokesman Lt. Jeffrey Silva said officers responded to a domestic incident Wednesday afternoon at a home on Ellen Street and encountered a man armed with two knives.

Silva said the man refused to comply with their orders and continued to threaten them with the knives. The officers then fired to defend themselves.

The man's identity has not been released.

The incident is under investigation and the officers involved have been placed on paid administrative leave, which is standard protocol for all officer involved shootings.
