The New England Flower Show is folding after bringing a spring preview to a winter-beaten region for 137 years.
The Boston Globe reports the Massachusetts Horticultural Society is hoping to stage two smaller events next year.
The society has been beset with problems this year. It lost money on the show, and had to borrow heavily to pay bills.
It recently fired 18 of 30 staff members, including the woman who had run the show. Last summer, its new executive director, Bob Feige, resigned after revelations he spent three days in prison for failing to pay employees at a business he owned.
Boston tourism officials called the cancellation a big loss, and said they hope the society will bring back the show.
