MANCHESTER, N.H. (WBZ) ― National parties and outside groups have pumped in millions of dollars to the Sen. John Sununu-Jeanne Shaheen New Hampshire Senate race. It's seen as one of most vulnerable GOP Senate seat in the country.

The battle between Sununu and Shaheen is focusing on the economy.

At a forum at St. Anselm College on Monday, Sen. Sununu and former Gov. Shaheen accused each other of showing poor leadership on the financial bailout bill.

Sununu claims that Shaheen waffled on the plan, while Shaheen said she would have stayed in Washington to work for a better bill, rather than campaigning in New Hampshire.

Shaheen says she wouldn't have voted for the bill because it didn't provide enough protections for taxpayers. Sununu says the bill wasn't perfect, but it was necessary.

Sununu continued to push for allowing people to privatize their social security. Shaheen says the Social Security system is not in crisis, and must be a guaranteed benefit.

Sununu says he wrote and passed the Internet tax ban and legislation to protect the White Mountain National Forest. He says he was one of 15 senators to opposed the so-called "Bridge to No-Where."

Sununu claims as governor Shaheen signed the statewide property tax into law, and supported a sales tax.

Shaheen says when she was Governor she sent balanced budgets to the legislature every term, tripled the rainy day fund, and kept the state's tax burden the lowest in the country.

She calls John Sununu a big spender, saying he has voted in lock step with George Bush.
