Wet Weather Threatens Homes In New Hampshire
CONCORD, N.H. (WBZ) ―
Fire officials are urging New Hampshire residents to clear snow from their roofs to prevent them from collapsing.
John Stark Regional
High School in Weare, New Hampshire
was evacuated and closed Monday morning because of safety concerns related to
the weather. Officials are worried that the large amount of snow, ice and water
on the building's roof may pose a safety threat; and is the reason they evacuated.
Roofs in Concord and Bristol collapsed Saturday under the weight of snow and rain from last week's storm.
Officials say the danger of more collapses could grow Monday with another round of snow and rain. They say flat roofs are most at risk when snow blocks drains.
Temperatures Monday were expected to reach the 50s in some parts of New Hampshire from a storm pouring more rain onto snow-covered roofs. After the brief warmup, temperatures are expected to drop below freezing again.
