Neighbors of a Mont Vernon, New Hampshire mother killed during a home invasion wonder if their barking dogs saved their lives.
According to
the Union Leader, two families who live nearby on an equally remote dirt road reported unusual activity in the hour before the attack on Oct. 4, leading them to wonder if the killers passed by their homes.
One woman says she was awakened when her motion detector light went on and her dogs began barking. When she looked outside, she noticed a car moving slowly up the dirt road past her house.
Another resident said her dog also woke her up barking and even growling at about 3:30 a.m.
It was a short time after that that Kimberly Cates was killed and her 11-year-old daughter brutally attacked.
Prosecutors say the four young men charged in the attack and robbery chose their victims at random.
