Pete Delmastro of Manchester is about to turn 80-years old. Today he's taking a 15-minute road test in order to renew his driver's license, but he doesn't mind.
"I think it's a good idea. Some seniors when they are 85 are as good as they were when they were 55, and then there are some 65-year-old seniors that are not as good as seniors that are 90. It's a good idea to test them," Delmastro said.
In New Hampshire, every senior over the age of 75 is required by law to take an eye exam and road test. If they fail, they get to retake the test two more times. "And if they don't pass after three times, they get immediate suspension," Virginia Beecher director of the Concord DMV said.
Beecher also says in light of the
recent accidents caused by seniors in Massachusetts, it's time the Bay State strongly considers creating a law that will require seniors to be tested. "It's wonderful that mass is looking at it because it's for everyone's protection," Beecher said.
Today Peter Delmastro passed his test with flying colors. He says seniors should not consider it an insult to be tested. "If you stop to think about it even seniors would say if he's being tested its for my benefit too," Delmastro said.
