Police: Fake Crime Led To Fake Community Service

KEENE, N.H. (AP) ― A Nelson, New Hampshire man accused of filing a false police report about an alleged mugging last year now is accused of filing a false report about the public service he was sentenced to perform.

Twenty-year-old Adam Bennett actually is charged with tampering with public records after allegedly filing a report saying he performed 100 hours of court-ordered community service. Police say the report was faked.

Last spring, Bennett told police a man with a knife jumped him in Keene and stole his money and shoes. Eventually, he was charged with filing a false report, and convicted of disorderly conduduct, a lesser charge. He was sentenced to 100 hours of community service.
