Ice-Out Declared On Winnipesaukee

GILFORD, N.H. (AP) ― Winter has lost its grip on New Hampshire's Lake Winnipesaukee.

Ice-out has been declared.

Dave Emerson of Emerson Aviation declared ice-out at 8 p.m. Wednesday, after flying over the lake.

Ice-out is declared when the cruise ship Mount Washington can reach all of its ports on the lake -- Meredith, Center Harbor, Wolfeboro, Alton Bay and Weirs Beach.

The average ice-out date is April 20th. Last year, the ice went out on the same date, April 23.
