Romney Defends His Emotions In NH
MANCHESTER, NH (WBZ) ―
Mitt Romney's working to keep his lead in New Hampshire after losing momentum to Mike Huckabee in Iowa.
He's also been on the offensive to distinguish himself, and showing a more compassionate, human side in this campaign.
"Every single hand was on every heart."
Mitt Romney spoke to workers at Insight Technology about seeing a soldier's casket arrive home to Logan. "I put my hand on my heart, tears began to well in my eyes, I began to imagine what it's like to use a son in a situation like that."
On Sunday's "Meet the Press," Romney talked about the day his church stopped discriminating against black people in 1978.
"I was driving home, going through the Fresh Pond Rotary in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and literally wept. Even at this day it's still emotional, and so it's very deep and fundamental in my life."
Critics have accused Romney of having no emotion. So, is this a new Romney?
"I'm a normal person," he said. "I have emotions... I have emotions just like anyone else, I'm not ashamed of that at all."
And he's also continued on the offensive against Mike Huckabee, who has taken the lead in Iowa. Romney wants Huckabee to apologize to Pres. Bush for calling his Iraq strategy "arrogant" with a bunker mentality.
"For that point of view, I believe Mike Huckabee owes the president an apology. And I can't believe he hasn't done that. The language he chose is the language of Hillary Clinton, Barrack Obama and John Edwards."
Romney says he's not surprised that the Boston Globe didn't endorse him, saying the paper has never endorsed him before and he didn't expect them to start now.
