N.H. Nurse Accused Of Diluting Patient's Pain Meds

MANCHESTER, N.H. (WBZ) ― A former nurse at Elliot Hospital in Manchester is facing federal charges for watering down a patient's pain-killer to feed her own drug addiction.

The nurse, Vickie Worthington, is no longer working at Elliot Hospital. Worthington, 49, allegedly diluted drugs for a cancer patient and kept the rest of the painkiller for herself back in March of 2007.

Elliot Hospital said it is "confident that its policies, procedures and protocols around dispensing controlled substances played a vital role in detecting the issue and swiftly addressing it for the protection of its patients."

Worthington is expected in court next month to face charges, and if convicted, she could get up to 10 years in federal prison.
