New Hampshire hospital officials say a day-old baby was given to the wrong mother, who then breast fed the baby.

Portsmouth Regional Hospital says in a statement that it is conducting an internal investigation and regrets the event.

The baby's father didn't want his identity revealed, but says the nurse claims to have misread the last digits on the baby's identification bracelet, which is supposed to match the parents' bracelets.

The father said he spoke to the woman who mistakenly nursed the wrong baby.
