Jury Selection Starts In Officer Murder Trial

MANCHESTER, N.H. (AP) ― Jury selection is under way in Manchester, New Hampshire, for the capital murder trial of Michael Addison, who is accused of murdering a city police officer in October 2006.

Sixty prospective jurors were brought to Superior Court in Manchester Monday morning; eight ended up being excused. The rest will be screened further.

The neatly dressed, 28-year-old defendant was at the defense table with his lawyers.

Judge Kathleen McGuire read the lengthy witness list and told prospective jurors the trial could run seven or eight weeks. Those who passed preliminary screening filled out a questionnaire asking questions including whether race would influence their ability to be impartial.

Addison is black; Police Officer Michael Briggs was white.
