Police in Salem, New Hampshire are looking for a brazen scam artist who stole $4,000 in cash from a victim who paid him for four plasma televisions.
Investigators say a restaurant owner from Stewartstown who recently lost a big screen TV in an electrical storm reported receiving a phone call from a man who said he was from a company called the White Mountain Distributor Company. He said the man claimed to be a distributor and offered to sell him 4 60-inch plasma televisions for $4,000.
They met at the Mall at Rockingham Park just outside of Sears Thursday morning. The victim paid the $4,000, the scammer handed him a sales receipt, disappeared into Sears to get the TV sets, and never came back.
The suspect is white, six feet tall, weighs approximately 180 pounds and has a mole under his right eye. Police released several surveillance photos of him Friday.
Several of these so-called "flim-flam" scams happened earlier this year, including an
incident outside the Sears at the Burlington Mall.
Anybody with information should call Salem Police at (603) 893-1911 or the Southern N.H. Crimeline at (603) 893-6600.
