Man Arrested In Armed Pharmacy Robberies

Other Suspects Still At Large

NEWTON, Mass. (WBZ) ― Malden and Newton police have arrested a suspect believed to have robbed two pharmacies in the last month.

The first robbery happened on Feb. 14 in Brookline, the second happened in Malden on March 4 – both at Walgreens stores. The third robbery happened Monday at a CVS in Newton.

Police arrested and charged 23-year-old Felix Torres with armed robbery, kidnapping and conspiracy Friday afternoon in connection with the string of robberies.

Police said other robbers were involved in the cases. In each robbery, store clerks were approached as they were closing the stores.

The Newton robbery happened at the CVS on Centre Street around midnight.

Investigators say two suspects forced two employees back inside moments after they had closed the store for the night.

One of the robbers threatened to shoot an employee and all four moved into the store's office, according to police.

Surveillance video showed one suspect standing by the office door holding a handgun while the other robber took money from a safe and put it inside a small duffle bag.

Moments later, a phone rang and the two thieves ran off.

No one was hurt in any of the robberies.

Police said the store clerks were forced back into the stores and forced to open the safes in the other robberies as well.

Anyone with information about the robberies or other suspects is urged to contact the Newton Police Department at 617 796-2104 or their TIPS-LINE at 617 796-2121.
