Police Release Sketch In North End Sex Assault
BOSTON (WBZ) ―
Boston police have released a sketch of a man who sexually assaulted a woman in the North End in the early-morning hours of Wednesday.
The woman told police she was walking along Richmond Street near Fulton Street in the North End around 3:15 a.m. Wednesday when she attacked from behind.
The suspect fled after a brief struggle, the woman told police.
"It's a very safe community. Really tight knit. We don't know whether this individual lives in the area, we don't know," said Boston police Deputy Superintendent Paul Fitzgerald. "We'd ask them to be alert. Anyone who doesn't look like belong, suspicious, let us to look into it."
Police are also investigating whether this attack is related to two others in the North End last January. In one of those cases, a woman told police she was sexually assaulted on Charter Street in the early-morning hours. That victim said she was able to fight off her attacker, who then fled the scene.
Police say there could be a connection between these incidents and another attack that happened on July 13, 2007 in the North End, because the attacker's description is similar.
The suspect in Wednesday's attack is described as a white man, about 25-30 years old, approximately 5 feet 8 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall, with short hair and a medium build.
According to the victim, the man was wearing a navy blue or black baseball hat with an unknown logo, a white ribbed tank top, dark colored shorts that came down to his knees and dark colored footwear.
