NStar To Cut Natural Gas Rates 70%
BOSTON (WBZ) ―
NStar said Monday that natural gas rates will drop by 70 percent starting in May, enough to save the average customer about $35 a month.
The company has submitted a proposed summer rate of 38 cents per therm, down from last summer's average cost of $1.30.
The rate cut still must be approved by the Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities.
NSTAR Chairman Tom May said the rate cut is in line with a decline of prices on the futures market, reflecting a six-month forecast for the price of natural gas.
The proposed rate also reflects normal differences between winter and summer prices.
